There are currently 13 licensed virtual asset trading platforms, while six applicants are still under review, revealed Joseph Chan, Acting Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury.

Unless exempted, any party engaging in virtual asset trading, custody, advisory or asset management services must obtain a licence. The proposed regulatory regime will include penalties consistent with those under the existing framework.
