Customs intercept 17 silver smuggling cases at Border Gate in five days

Macau Customs has intercepted 17 cases of silver pellet smuggling at the Border Gate checkpoint, seizing approximately 49 kg of suspected silver pellets with an estimated market value of around MOP880,000, public broadcaster TDM reported.

The 17 cases were intercepted over a five-day period between 27 and 31 March. Officers identified individuals acting suspiciously in the outbound passenger inspection area at the Border Gate. Upon further inspection, it was revealed that the suspects had concealed the silver pellets in their personal belongings, clothing, and various parts of their bodies.

The cases involve 11 Macau residents and six mainland Chinese residents, aged between 16 and 72. Customs has initiated legal proceedings under the Foreign Trade Law and notified the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ)to follow up on the students involved in the operation.
