A money exchange in Hong Kong’s Central district has been vandalised for the second time in a fortnight after red paint was thrown across its frontage in the early hours of Monday.

Police said they received a report at 8.13am today that SMALL GIRL MONEY EXCHANGE LIMITED, located at the General Commercial Building, 156–164 Des Voeux Road Central, had been splashed with red paint. Officers attended the scene and have classified the incident as criminal damage. No arrests have yet been made and enquiries are ongoing.

According to CCTV footage reviewed by the shop’s management, the attack occurred at around 12.14am. A private car pulled up outside the premises and a man wearing a black baseball cap, face mask, black T‑shirt and shorts got out. He approached the shop’s metal shutter and used a tool to throw paint over it before returning to the vehicle and driving away. The entire episode lasted roughly one minute.

The person in charge of the business, Ms Yim, said staff discovered the damage when they arrived to open the shop in the morning. She revealed that the same premises had been targeted in a similar manner two weeks earlier and believes the same individual or group may be responsible. The previous incident was reported to police but has not resulted in any arrests.

Ms Yim stressed that the company, which has operated for a decade, has never had disputes with customers nor been involved in debt issues. Since the first attack, she said, the business has received no demands for payment or other messages that might explain a motive. She believes the vandalism was a deliberate attempt to tarnish the shop’s reputation rather than linked to any financial conflict.

While the repeated attacks have caused inconvenience and temporary disruption, she said overall business has not been significantly affected. The company’s two other branches have not been targeted. Records show that on 21st July, at about 9am, police were alerted after staff at the same exchange reported that red paint had been thrown over the premises. That case was also recorded as criminal damage and remains unsolved.
